In a Space Under The Sky
Jaimie Ladysh
“I invite viewers to enter environments where presence and perception transfigure the ordinary into extraordinary.”
Jaimie Ladysh is an interdisciplinary artist from Texas whose work is primarily in lens-based media. Rooted in a deep sense of place, her imagery often evokes ethereal qualities that invite viewers into a dialogue of connection—between self, nature, and the universe.
Imagine standing on black sand on a cloudy, foggy, misty morning when suddenly sun rays break through illuminating parts of the landscape.

Currently exploring digital, with edited, and some composited images, Jaimie prints them all on archival papers. She then extends the creative process with hand- coloring, hand-painting, and occasionally layering encaustic wax. This interplay of digital precision and tactile intervention results in richly textured works that blur the line between photograph and painting.
Think of dreaming about a velvety soft rolling hills next to a beautiful small pond, with a lone tree.

Jaimie’s artistic foundation is grounded in traditional and alternative photographic processes. As a fine art major, she experimented with hand-tinting and painting silver gelatin photographs using oils, pencils, and water-based media. Over the years, she has worked with 35mm, medium format, and toy cameras, exploring the expressive possibilities of each.
“All images begin as black and white photographs. Once printed, they are transformed by my addition of hand applied color.
Some images are Photo Encaustics, which begin as a black and white print adhered to a hard, wooden substrate. After hand-coloring these, I finish them using encaustic painting techniques, which involves mixing colored pigments with a heated wax medium.”
“My landscapes explore the natural, the spiritual, and the internal where the visible world can transform into another kind of magical world. “
As the mist rises from the small pond, soft ethereal sunrise colors of pinks and blues lift up from the water’s surface.
